  • Hypertrophic Osteodystrophy of the Proximal Humerus in Two Dogs

Two dogs, 3 and 6 months of age, were presented with painful, swollen shoulder and carpal joints; reluctance to stand; and pyrexia. Radiographs in both cases revealed an irregular lucent zone in the metaphysis of the proximal humerus, parallel and adjacent to the physis. The same lucent zone was also evident in the physes of the distal radial and ulnar metaphyses. Clinical signs and radiographs were consistent with hypertrophic osteodystrophy. Clinical signs resolved in both dogs with administration of carprofen, tramadol, and intravenous fluids. No signs of recurrence were reported at 3-month follow-ups.

    68% Increase in Business
For years now I have been saying that for every negative thing that happens there is an equal positive force if you can only find it.  Well, today I read that GM is closing over a thousand of its dealerships.  Tonight I went to a wedding rehearsal and the groom who is in the shoe repair business near NC State University told me that their shoe repair business is up 68%.  He said that people are no longer throwing away their $110 shoes, they are having new heels put on and having their shoes resoled.  That is the most refreshing news that I have heard in months. OK, it is a stretch from many thousands of people involved with GM losing their jobs and one fellow saying their little business is doing so well. My point is that good things are happening all over America but you will never read about them in our newspaper and you will never hear about them on the evening news. As they say, good news doesn’t sell. God knows that America needs to get on the road to recovery and quickly so let it begin with this one little story and let it grow and grow.

    Say Something Good
Hockey! Here I sit, happy as a duck at the Sportsplex parking lot who just found a car to sit under. First my old home town Detroit Redwings won their game in the last few seconds and then our North Carolina Hurricanes won their game in overtime as both teams advance in the Stanley Cup Playoff Series. So I’m not a staunch hockey fan and I’ve only seen the Wings play once when I was a young man.  So this could turn out like Michigan playing UNC recently in basketball… A win-win situation for me. May God bless our troops and may God bless all America as we turn the corner to a bright, prosperous future.

    Points To Ponder
Opra at Duke graduation recently. “How can I help somebody else move to higher ground? That is success. That’s it. That’s why we’re all alive,” she said. “Each of us has to stand in our own shoes. Will you stand in them in humility and compassion and courage? Every day will give you a chance to make that choice.”

    A Little Humor
Sadly, some recent grads are learning that currently Ph.D. means Pizza Hut Driver

We’ve known for nearly a century that the better you treat people, the harder they’ll work. It’s a pretty straightforward relationship. This being the case, it seems logical to conclude that the job of every team leader, supervisor, manager and executive should be to treat their employees as well as possible so they become excited about coming to work and applying their best efforts toward performing their jobs every day. Unfortunately it turns out that such behavior is the exception rather than the rule.

Sunrise Services, Easter Egg Hunts, Deviled Eggs, Chocolate Rabbits, Malted Milk Eggs, Name your own poison but whatever it is it will probably remind you that with Easter and its religious significance comes the temporal fringe benefits.I saw a rabbit out in front of our house as I pulled up the drive yesterday and just a few minutes later I found a little tiny basket on my desk and it had half a dozen of those little chocolate eggs and so, Yes, I do believe in the Easter Bunny.  I truly pray that we are all blessed here in America on this Easter Day weekend.  May God bless all Americans and keep our troops from harm. – Art Fettig
