    Rutherford’s Route 66 Family Diner

A little gem when driving the historic Route 66 through Arizona. This little unassuming historic building maintains a great staff serving down home just good food that you would expect in a small town diner.

    Hello Fresh

Hello Fresh – One of our favorites. Generally folks sign up for weekly deliveries. The minimum is generally two meals for two people per week (four servings). They come in recyclable containers, most packed in ice to insure freshness which then can easily be stored in the refrigerator for a couple days until prepared. The enclosed printed instructions are generally easy to follow and can also be downloaded when you first add them to our cart so that you know what is required to prepare the meal before they actually are delivered.

    Zinburger - Gilbert, Arizona

Recently, my wife Marcia and I had dinner at a restaurant called Zinburger. We love going there, but for a number of reasons we hadn’t been there in nearly five months. We always try to show kindness to the servers because it’s a busy place and they have to hustle to keep up. When the server came to our table to take our drink order, she looked at Marcia and said, “You’d like a 16-ounce Scrimshaw draft, right?” Then she looked at me and said, “And you’d like a 16-ounce Scrimshaw and a rye old fashioned.” As we nodded our heads in amazement, she said, “It’s been a while since you guys have been here.” Then she went off to get our drinks. The lesson here is that it doesn’t take much in the way of kindness to stand out in a busy restaurant. And if you are kind, the servers are not likely to forget you anytime soon.

    Grilled Shrimp

Blue Stingray Seafood Restaurant in Durham, North Carolina [now permanently closed] is one of those rare finds that put a smile on my face and made my mouth water all at the same time. No, it’s not a chain. With their menu, including “Fried Gater”, it couldn’t be. Catfish and fried shrimp with hush puppies, two sides and a beverage was $9.99. It is what they offered for sides that blew my mind. Here are just a few of the side offerings: Sweet potato fries, collard greens, cheese grits, mac & cheese plus several usual ones like cole slaw and such.  Sheilah, born in Guam as a U.S. Citizen, was the cashier and all around guide. An awesome photo on the wall made me feel like I was sitting in an exotic ocean front restaurant.  A wonderful experience.  May God Bless our troops all over the world and bring them safely home.
