Republicans are blocking almost every effort the Democrats are trying to pass into law. Why? Probably money. The NRA?
“It’s been seven years since a white supremacist stepped into a sacred space of worship for the Black community of Charleston, SC and took 9 innocent young lives. We wish we could say that we’ve seen real change happen in the ensuing years, but that is sadly not the case. Buffalo, New York; Uvalde, Texas; Tulsa, Oklahoma – these are just three of the mass shootings we’ve witnessed in the last [few] months.” 1
Solution: Elect more progressive Democrats. End the filibuster.
A courageous leader and defender of democracy. A public servant dedicated to expanding economic opportunity. A critical governorship in a battleground state
American politician and social worker who is serving as Secretary of State of Arizona. Prior to assuming office in January 2019, she was an Arizona state senator representing the 24th district from 2013 to 2019 and an Arizona state representative representing the 15th district from 2011 to 2013.
She is a candidate for the Democratic Party nomination for the 2022 Arizona gubernatorial election.
Ronald Dion DeSantis is an American politician and attorney serving as the 46th governor of Florida since 2019. A member of the Republican Party, he represented Florida’s 6th congressional district in the United States House of Representatives from 2013 to 2018.
“Florida Governor Ron DeSantis joined Texas Governor Greg Abbott in the racist political stunt of cruelly flying migrants and asylum seekers to other states, even lying to trick families onto the planes. Both men talk frequently about their faith.” 2
“Three prominent, right-wing, Catholic governors — Ron DeSantis of Florida, Greg Abbott of Texas, and Doug Ducey of Arizona — have been making headlines for brazenly abusing migrants to score political points. And the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) hasn’t said a word about these shockingly cruel attacks on migrant families.
Last week, DeSantis tricked at least 50 asylum seekers into boarding a plane to the island of Martha’s Vineyard, MA — leading them to believe that the flight was actually to Boston and cruelly promising them shelter and assistance that didn’t exist. Abbott and Ducey have likewise bused thousands of migrants to northern cities without any plan in place to greet or care for them once they got there.
These relocation transports by MAGA governors aren’t without tragic — and racist — precedent. During the 1960s, southern segregationists orchestrated “Reverse Freedom Rides,” pushing hundreds of Black citizens to board one-way buses to northern cities and falsely promising them jobs and housing once they got there.
Catholic social teaching couldn’t be clearer on treating migrants with understanding and respect. The USCCB’s own website states that “we cannot excuse inhumane treatment of certain persons by claiming that their lack of legal status deprives them of rights given by the Creator.”” 3
“Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and the state’s top emergency management official confirmed Thursday that 800,000 to 1 million COVID test kits in the state’s stockpile recently expired without being used. At a Thursday news conference, Kevin Guthrie, the director of Florida’s Division of Emergency Management, told reporters when asked about the state’s stockpile: “We had between 800,000 and a million test kits, Abbott rapid test kits, in our warehouse that did expire.”” 4
In the wake of the Buffalo, New York, and Uvalde, Texas mass shootings, U.S. President Joe Biden is calling for new gun safety restrictions, including the possibility of expanding background checks and banning the sales of assault weapons.
“In the second chapter of Matthew, we find the matriarch of the faith, Rachel, weeping over the slaughter of the innocent children of Bethlehem, having been sacrificed on the altar of political power and fear. I can’t help but think that Rachel wept again last night, joining her tears with ours and joining her voice with the anguished cries coming from Uvalde. But if crying and prayers alone worked, we wouldn’t be here again. We must cry and pray with our shoes on, ready to do the next best thing, as hard as it may be.” 5
Stupid things republican Governor’s like Greg Abbott say.
“Texas Gov. Greg Abbott said at a press conference on Wednesday that the Uvalde school massacre “could’ve been worse.” Speaking about the events of the shooting, Abbott lauded law enforcement officers, saying that without their intervention, the tragedy would likely have had worse consequences.” 6
The lies just continue to flow. The disrespect Greg Abbott shows is appalling.
