Tanning? Certain Foods Help Your Skin Tone

“If you’re the type who likes to spray tan or spend hours under the sun… here’s a better alternative. Switch up your diet to food that’s rich in carotenoids. You know what they say – you are what you eat.

Carotenoids are compounds which give your skin a natural glowing tan through regular intake. Some great sources include:

    • Butternut Squash
    • Cantaloupe Melon
    • Carrots
    • Dark Leafy Greens
    • Dried Apricots
    • Sweet Potato
    • Sweet Red Peppers

A study that came out in The Quarterly Journal of Experimental Psychology showed that 86% of people found a carotenoid tan more attractive than a pale face. It also compared faces that had both carotenoid tan and sun tan versions – and more preferred the carotenoid type. So high-carotenoid foods aren’t just good for your health. They’re great for your skin.” 1

An Amazing Place to Gather – Overheard at the Senior Banquet Held at the Church

These are just a few of the more poignant comments from some of our graduating seniors:

    • “I found this place when I was in trouble and really needed it and you helped me”
    • “This community is the only place that felt like home to me during my years at ASU”
    • “I decided to get a job in the East Valley so I could still be part of this community after graduation”
    • “The people here are so welcoming” (this was said by several students)
    • “San Diego was the best possible way to begin my college years.” [Students meet in San Diego over the Labor Day weekend]

Thanks for all you do for students and continuing to make our ministry such a welcoming and vital community of faith that impacts our students and through them the church throughout the nation and world!

“Thomas sent the messages using FreeRoots, an online platform intended to make it easy to send pre-written emails to multiple elected officials. New documents show that Thomas indeed used the platform to reach many lawmakers simultaneously. On Nov. 9, she sent identical emails to 20 members of the Arizona House and seven Arizona state senators. That represents more than half of the Republican members of the state legislature at the time.” 2

    Wake Up, America!
Vote! Make sure you are Registered!

With Republican legislators restricting your access to Vote, make sure you are registered

No matter if you live in the United States, outside of the country, or are actively serving in the armed forces, registering to vote is easier than ever before.

    Citizens: Go to vote.gov

U.S. Citizens Abroad: Visit the United States Department of State

Military / Veterans: See the Federal Voting Assistance Program – Using the FPCA ensures that your state will send your ballot to you at least 45 days before the election — a protection not guaranteed when using other forms. It’s a good idea to send in a new FPCA every January and each time you move.

Reach Out to the Phoenix VA LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator

June was PRIDE Month, and VA takes pride in striving to improve the health and healthcare for LGBTQ+ Veterans. There are an estimated one million lesbian, gay, and bisexual Veterans in the United States. Research also shows that transgender identity is about five times more common among Veterans than non-Veterans.

Sexual and gender minority Veterans have faced stigma and discrimination, which can affect health, so VA is working to make sure that LGBTQ+ Veterans know they are welcome within the VA healthcare system.

For information about services, reach out to our Phoenix VA LGBTQ+ Veteran Care Coordinator, Dr. Ash Senter, at 602-234-7190.
